Draft Genome Sequences of Histamine-Producing Photobacterium kishitanii and Photobacterium angustum, Isolated from Albacore (Thunnus alalunga) and Yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) Tuna
Histamine-producing bacteria are responsible for scombrotoxin (histamine) fish poisoning, a leading cause of fish poisoning in the United States. We report here the draft genome sequences of four histamine-producing (HP) Photobacterium kishitanii strains and nine HP Photobacterium angustum strains isolated from tuna.
متن کاملMercury Content in Pacific Troll-Caught Albacore Tuna (Thunnus alalunga)
Ninety-one albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga) captured during the 2003 commercial fishing season were tested for total mercury content in muscle tissue. The fish were harvested between 32.72°N (off Southern California) and 48.30°N (off the northern tip of Washington) between July and November. Fish weighed from 3.14 to 11.62 kg and were 50.8-86.4 cm long. Total mercury content in the albacore mus...
متن کاملQuality assessment of filtered smoked yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) steaks.
UNLABELLED Filtered smoke (FS) has been used to preserve taste, texture, and/or color in tuna and other fish species. This treatment is particularly important in color preservation during frozen storage. The objective of this study was to compare changes in the quality profiles of FS-treated and untreated (UT) yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) steaks stored in 3 ways: room temperature (21 to 2...
متن کاملDeep diving behavior observed in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares)
Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) are known to preferentially occupy the surface mixed layer above the thermocline and it has been suggested that they are physiologically restricted to water temperatures no more than 8 ◦C colder than surface waters. However, we here report for dive data acquired from a large yellowfin tuna which demonstrate for the first time that this species is indeed capabl...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequences of Histamine- and Non-Histamine-Producing Photobacterium Strains
Histamine-producing bacteria (HPBs) have recently been identified from the marine environment. The identification and characterization of HPBs is important to developing effective mitigation strategies for scombrotoxin fish poisoning. We report here the draft genomes of seven histamine-producing and two non-histamine-producing marine Photobacterium strains.
